Niagara Springs

October 31, 2014 by Scott Leave a Comment

I will just say that we were astonished at the amount of water that was coming right out of the side of the canyon wall.  We’ve posted about other places in the Thousand Springs State Park (Malad Gorge, Thousand Springs Scenic Byway), and this is the last one that we visited.  And it was amazing.  Stunning.  Beautiful.

True, it’s not as big as Niagara Falls.  But the amount of water coming out of the side of the canyon was amazing.  To make it even better, you can get right up close to it.

Niagara Springs has been designated a National Natural Landmark.  The whole area is right on the Snake River, has 350 foot basalt cliffs and is about 179 acres large.

Approximately 250 cubic feet of water tumbles out of the canyon side per SECOND.  It flows right down into the Snake River.

There is a nice grassy area with restrooms, grills, shelters, and picnic tables.  It’s a great place to see wildlife especially water fowl.

Niagara Springs is just a few miles south of I-84, near Wendell, Idaho.

Hope you enjoy this as much as we did.  There are so many fun and interesting places to go in our State Parks.  Take advantage of them in your state and visit them.  You’ll be surprised what you find.
